Guilty – Khabibulin Will Be Going To Jail

This afternoon Nikolai Khabibulin was found guilty on  three separate charges; the most serious of which is an extreme DUI. The extreme DUI caries a minimum sentence of 30 days in jail and a maximum sentence of six months. Khabibulin will be sentenced on a later date not yet determined.

With training camp opening in three weeks on September 17, there is no chance that Khabibulin won’t miss some or even most of training camp.

I think it’ll be very interesting to see how the Oilers front office handles this situation. To date they’ve stood behind Khabibulin but perhaps that changes now. Tyler Dellow posted in July that Oilers might be able to void the Khabibulin contract should he be unable to play because he is in jail. We’re at that point now I guess.

Stay tuned because this story is far from over.
